Allied Arts Unveils Together Together

The unveiling of Allied Arts’ first commissioned piece of public art Together Together happened Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 4:30 p.m. in front of the Oklahoma City Convention Center, Mick Cornett Drive and Robinson Avenue. Together Together is a 26-foot steel sculpture created by artist local Joe Slack and commissioned by Allied Arts in commemoration of its 50th anniversary in 2021. Slack primarily uses steel for his art.

“I like that with steel you can work on a monumental scale,” Slack said. “I like seeing people walk up to a piece and look up.”

Slack was chosen as Allied Arts’ step-up artist in 2021, making way for his commissioned piece in 2023. Slack’s piece, Together Together, is about personal connections and community dialogue. The scale of the sculpture facilitates people coming together, with the lines and voids representing the road map of life.

“This piece is in celebration of 50 years of Allied Arts and represents the tremendous impact the arts have on our community,” former Allied Arts CEO/President Deborah McAuliffe Senner said.

Together Together is generously underwritten by Rick & Lerri Cooper and W&W/AFCO Steel. Additional project support has been provided by Lingo Construction, Dolese, Naifeh Fine Jewelry, City of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma City Convention Center, Randy Marks Arts Liaison for the City of Oklahoma City, Mike Mays, Collins Peck, SRB Engineering and Wallace Design Collective, PC.
