Attendees Celebrated Inside and on Top of the Devon Tower
Allied Arts hosted its annual Honorary Chair Event on Wednesday, March 14, to honor Polly and Larry Nichols for their leadership on behalf of central Oklahoma’s cultural community. The event was held on the top floor of the Devon Tower with spectacular panoramic views for approximately 200 of Allied Arts’ top donors. Guests were treated to a once-in-a-lifetime rooftop tour on the tower—known as the highest point in Oklahoma.
A 20-year tradition, Allied Arts annual campaigns recognize an individual or couple for their extraordinary contributions to the arts. The Nicholses were named 2018 Honorary Chairs because their commitment to elevate the arts aligns with Allied Arts’ chief purpose to ensure the arts are made accessible to everyone, particularly within underserved populations.
Allied Arts board chair Tricia Everest and 2018 campaign co-chairs Aimee and David Harlow updated guests on the progress of the annual campaign, announcing that more than $1.9 million has been raised to date toward the $3.125 million goal. Although progress is being made, it is more imperative than ever that fundraising for the arts remains a community-wide effort and is supported by corporations and individuals at every level.
The Honorary Chair Event is integral to the annual campaign as event attendees collectively donated more than $570,000 to support the arts in central Oklahoma this year. The focus of the evening was to thank the guests for being leadership donors to Allied Arts and to acknowledge the Nicholses for their dedication to the betterment of Oklahoma.
In Aimee Harlow’s introduction of the Nicholses she stated, “Imagine Oklahoma City without their vision, leadership and volunteerism. It would be a radically different place. We might not even be standing in this architectural marvel right now…Polly has devoted her life to nonprofit work. She has been involved with Allied Arts for more than three decades, co-chairing the fundraising campaign in 1990 and serving as a steadfast advocate and champion for Allied Arts since…Larry has redefined corporate citizenship. Under Larry’s leadership, Devon has become a chief benefactor of the arts and many other important causes in Oklahoma City.”
Addison Starling, granddaughter of Larry and Polly, presented the couple with flowers while Allied Arts President/CEO Deborah McAuliffe Senner thanked them for their spirit of selfless giving.
During the program, guests enjoyed the sounds of the Savoy Trio as well as Allied Arts staff member Laura Cunningham and her OKC String Quartet throughout the evening. The spectacular event could not have taken place without the following generous in-kind donations: hosts Vast and Devon Energy Corp., libations and party favors from Central Liquor, and floral arrangements by The Fleuriste.
