Meet Our Staff- Laura Cunningham

Meet Laura Cunningham! She’s the OKCityCard Coordinator and Development Assistant.

Where were you before Allied Arts and what brought you here?

I graduated from Oklahoma City University right before I came to Allied Arts. I had interned here the summer before my senior year and loved learning about its mission. I had the opportunity to assist with lots of OKCityCard, board of directors, and other tasks during my internship, so I was excited to join the team.

What is your favorite way to enjoy the arts in our community?

I love to attend pop and classical concerts put on by our member agencies and community groups, as well as museums and galleries.

How do you incorporate art into your daily life?

I play the violin part-time for weddings and other events, so it is definitely a daily dose of the arts for me. I also have fun arranging string quartet pop music for clients.

What is your favorite form of art? (visual, performing, etc.)

I went to college for music – that’s my favorite art form. I like all genres of music – except maybe heavy metal. J

What is your favorite piece of public art in OKC?

I would have to say it’s a toss-up between the large historical mural along Broadway at the entrance to Bricktown and the centennial decorated bison scattered throughout the city. Although not located in OKC, there is something majestic about Fernando Botero’s bronze “Sphinx” at OU’s Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art.

Anything else you would like to add?

There is nothing more fun than being adventurous and discovering new art forms around your community and Allied Arts’ member agencies and grant recipients provide so much inspiration to do that!Buffalo at Bricktown Canal 2
