Creating Jobs, Generating Commerce and Driving Tourism: the Economic Impact of the Arts in Oklahoma

GraphOver the last year, Oklahomans for the Arts has worked diligently with partners across the state to procure data that reflects just how much of an impact the arts has on our economy.

The Oklahoma Arts & Economic Prosperity 5 study provides an in-depth look at the impact of Oklahoma’s nonprofit arts and cultural organizations. The study finds that these nonprofits generated direct economic activity of $872,830,632 in 2015-16, while attracting audiences, spurring business development, supporting jobs and creating government revenue.

When spending during arts-related events, the average Oklahoman spends $31.93 excluding the cost of admission. Out-of-state attendees spend $92.83. Multiply this by the number of friends that tag along with you, and you’ll see why the numbers are so encouraging!

Equally exciting are the 29,165 full-time equivalent jobs created because of the arts, totaling more than $588 million in household income to local residents.

This study shows that the arts mean business for Oklahoma!
