#BecauseOfArtsEd

Katie Barrick - OKC Phil

This week we visited several of our member agencies and grantees to hear from them just what impact the arts have had in their life. Although National Arts in Education Week is coming to a close, we considered it a privileged to use our platform to spread awareness about the power of the arts in schools. Solar Eclipse at the Science Museum

20170821_131104

This week’s total solar eclipse was the talk of the town country! Our team watched the eclipse at an event hosted by Science Museum Oklahoma, one of our 26 member agencies. Astronomy experts were also on-site to answer questions about what was happening, why we saw so many crescents, and how to safely view the eclipse. Even though we weren’t in the […]

“Creative and artistic kids are different. From the beginning. They stand out…at the expense of ridicule. They think, feel and process information differently than their peers. They need other artistic people around them. My son, John, is one of those kids. Despite being a very joyous individual, he clearly became increasingly despondent as peer issues increased at school. He was alone. And different. Then we found The Sooner Theatre. It’s his second home now. He has the encouragement and freedom […]
