Improv groups from across the country are gathering in Oklahoma to serve up laughs and improvisational skits that will knock you off your feet. Hosted by our OKCityCard partner, Red Dirt Improv, this year's festival will be held this weekend, August 20 - 22 at Lyric's Plaza Theatre.

In addition to performances, improv experts including Joe Bill and Susan Messing will teach intensive workshops throughout the weekend. This means you can get into the act, too!

Thursday Night is Pie Night

The Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art is hosting an old fashioned pie and ice cream social to honor its members.

Members and their families are invited to the museum for Paintings, Poetry, and Pie at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 12.

Along with gobbling scrumptious pies and ice cream, members will feed their minds during a poetry reading by noted poet and author, Dr. Ben Myers, associate professor of English at OBU.

And, guests will sample a bit of country, a pinch of rock-and-roll, and a nibble of bluegrass while listening to folk-music duo Ed and Karen Pettit of Oklahoma City.

Not a museum member? You can join during the pie social and enjoy the festivities. Family memberships begin at $50. You can also join online at www.mgmoa.org/membership.

The Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art is located on the campus of St. Gregory’s University, 1900 W. MacArthur St., Shawnee.

We Interrupt This Blog to Say - THANK YOU!

Hi all,

We wanted to take a moment and say a HUGE THANK YOU to all who have responded to helping the arts organizations affected by June's Stage Center flooding.

Many individuals, corporations and organizations rallied to provide office and art supplies to outfit the six displaced arts groups in their temporary offices.

In particular, thank you to:

Devon, Chesapeake and the Junior League for dropping off supplies
Hobby Lobby for giving arts supplies
BancFirst for donating computers
Edmond Women's Club for donating fabric and aprons
All of the individuals who gave through the 2010 Arts Flood Emergency Fund

Below are a few photos from a recent office supply "shopping" meeting we had at the Allied Arts office. Representatives from the six organizations could come by our offices and pick out whatever supplies they needed.

You'll see the Arts Council's fearless leader, Peter Dolese, picking up supplies...a special thank you to him for working so diligently on coordinating the future of the Stage Center!
